Chancellor’s Conference Day for Professional Development Resources

In preparation for the June 7 professional development day, visit the Common Core Library for activities in which you can engage your staff to:

  • understand and unpack the 2012-13 Citywide Instructional Expectations
  • explore the connections between the Common Core standards and the instructional shifts they require
  • discuss what effective teaching aligned to the Common Core looks like
  • consider how planning to remove barriers to learning can provide access to all students, and
  • understand how student achievement at their next institutions can inform postsecondary planning in your school community.

Each activity includes a step-by-step facilitation guide, handouts and other resources.

The following resources are also available on the Common Core Library to support pre-k–8 schools in reviewing their scope and sequences for the upcoming year:

  • Math overviews that align to the Common Core and existing Core Curriculum materials
  • ‘What’s different?’ for literacy guidelines that outline the grade level differences in the Common Core and the current New York State standards
